It seems that the opposition to cannabis is finally becoming desperate now. They have resorted to warning us about "high bunny rabbits" and ecological disasters caused by grows in national parks. LOL This is totally hilarious to me.
Recently there was a supposed doctor being interviewed on a talk show and he was ranting about how women who smoke marijuana will have crack babies. What?!!!! Cannabis is not even remotely close to being crack cocaine. When the interviewer pressed him on his comment he realized how stupid that remark sounded and he back peddled saying that well.... it produces crack like symptoms in the newborn.
Now mind you I don't recommend that pregnant women ingest anything that might be potentially harmful to their child. There are many things that are totally legal that could do as much or more damage to their fetus. However such arguments become almost comical when taken unemotionally and at face value. You cannot help but laugh and say "he has got to be kidding right?"
Interestingly such arguments often turn out to be some of the best reasons for legalization. Want to stop uncontrolled grows in national forests? Simple. Legalize it and grow it in fields like corn. Solved. Worried about drunken bunny rabbits? Well cannabis grows wild naturally so chances are pretty good that most bunnies have a stash somewhere deep in the forrest anyway like most smokers. So that is not much of an argument either.
The thing about our society is that it is driven by money. Now when we made cannabis and all drugs illegal a huge anti-drug industry sprang up and has finally become "too large to fail." If we suddenly shut down all drug prosecution the economic impact would be staggering. Suddenly thousands of people would loose their jobs and have to seek alternate sources of income.
Then too our own government uses clandestine underground illegal drug and firearm sales as a way to generate dark money to fund their black ops. That has been exposed numerous times beginning with the Iran/Contra affair as well as our secret dealings with the deposed president of Panama Manuel Noriega. If all drugs were suddenly to be legalized prices would fall to nearly nothing and those dark revenue sources would dry up.
Then of course there is the pharmaceutical industry. As long as all drugs remain illegal their legal prescription products command top dollar prices and they can milk the Medicare and Medicaid systems regularly. That source of money would be seriously impacted by totally legal drugs produced in other nations. In short big pharma would lose their monopoly.
Oh and another interesting side effect of legalization and/or decriminalization would be the nearly total eradication of all drug related crime. So police forces, court systems, prison systems, and even the DEA itself would loose much of their reason for existing. The tax burden on the public to support all of this would be greatly reduced also. So in short the rich would get less rich and the middle class would have more change in their pockets. Hmmm. I could deal with that concept. :)
So the next time you happen to encounter a bunny hopping along in a rather unorthodox and haphazard way don't be alarmed. It is just high and would make a great addition to some really good Burgoo along with some drunk squirrels who imbibed some fermented berries. LOL Now that would be a really good stew. HEH HEH HEH HEH
